5/120ed. 120 (total all states)A first state proof won a purchase award at the Manhattan National at Kansas State University in 1984. The block deteriorated rapidly during the hand-printing. No more than 40 proofs of the edition were made before the block had to be reworked for a second state. The first-state proofs can be identified by the woman's pale lips and the many black lines in the white shirts of the two male figures at the lower right. The-second state proofs are from the same block; however, it was reworked so extensively that almost every line is different. The Manhattan National exhibition was judged by Antonio Frasconi in 1984. "Masquerade" was also accepted at the Boston Printmakers 36th National Exhibition in 1984. That exhibition was juried by Clifford S. Ackley.Masked men dance with women in masquerade.
