Details
trial proof 10
ed. 120 (total all states)
A first-state proof won a purchase award at the Manhattan National at Kansas State University in 1984. The block deteriorated rapidly during the hand-printing. No more than 40 proofs of the edition were made before the block had to be reworked for a second state. The first-state proofs can be identified by the woman's pale lips and the many black lines in the white shirts of the two male figures at the lower right. The second-state proofs are from the same block; however, it was reworked so extensively that almost every line is different. This proof has a few small printing tears. This is a late trial proof with notations in the margin.
Masked men dance with women in masquerade.
