Binder 1 consists of box 1 fodlers 1-6. Binder 2 consists of box 1 fodlers 7-13. Binder 3 consists of box 1 folders 14-17 and box 2 folders 1-6. Box 1 folder 5 contains a few xeroxed and transcribed letters of Tocqueville. Box 1 folder 9 contains a typed report: "Marx and de Tocqueville on 1848" by Christine Bergin. Date Span for Series 1: 1831-2007. Bulk Dates: 1960-2006. Series 2: Dissertation Manuscript. Contains typed manuscript of Martin J. Bergin, Jr.'s Ph.D. dissertation: "Tocqueville as Historian: An Examination of the Influences on His Thought and His Approach to History" (Georgetown University, 1985). Includes loose typed pages together in box 2 folder 13 containing edits made by Bergin, some in pencil. Series 3: Notebooks. Contains notebooks and notecards kept by Martin J. Bergin, Jr. about his research on Tocqueville. Stored in boxes 2 and 3. Date Span for Series 3: c.1980-1996. Series 4: Printed Materials. Contains 3 published volumes (in French) of "Alexis de Tocqueville Ouuvres Completes" (Gallimard): volumes 2, 6, and 13. Inlcudes handwritten marginalia by Martin J.
