The fifth in a series of weekly historical radio shows produced on the campus of Georgetown University. The episode starts with two young people preparing for their wedding. The mother of the bride bemoans that her daughter is marrying a soldier who is going off to war and that the daughter is involved in the war effort as a nurse. The bride's father says women have always been active in war efforts and recalls the story of Mary Slocumb during the American revolution. Flashback to South Carolina in 1776 and Mary Slocumb's husband Ezekiel joins the revolutionary war effort. One night Mary Slocumb has a dream about her husband being dead. Mary runs off to find her husband and ends up nursing injured soldiers, before being reunited with her husband. After hearing this story, the mother of the bride is more at ease with her daughter marrying a soldier and helping in the war effort.
