    Abstract
    With the healthcare system at the center of a contentious and long-running political debate, the prospects for nurses are important. Healthcare makes up more than one-sixth of the US economy and nursing is central as the largest healthcare profession. However, the requirements and demographics of nursing are quickly changing. A college education is key to upward mobility in the profession while diversity among nurses remain a challenge.
