This issue is devoted to news about the COVID-19 pandemic, its impact on veterans, and how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is responding to the pandemic. Topics inclue the number of positive cases and deaths reported by the VA as of April 15th, plans and preparations being made by the VA to bring on staff and acquire personal protective equipment (PPE), how the VA is preparing to activiate personnel and facilities to support the civilian healthcare system (known as the 4th mission), use of telehealth services by the VA, how the CARES Act supports veterans, the impact of COVID-19 on state-run veterans care homes, the use of the National Guard in various capacities, how layoffs and social distancing affects veterans, and how veterans and veteran-owned businesses are helping out during the pandemic. Also inclues statistics on deaths and hospitalizations of US military personnel in the US and Europe during the 1917-1918 influenza pandemic that were caused by either combat or the flu.
