Topics include an announcement from President-Elect Joe Biden that he will nominate Denis McDonough for the position of Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), a brief recap of the inaugural semester of Anthropology 264 Veterans: Hero, Victim, Threat, an update on the COVID-19 care numbers from the VA including priorities for distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, an op-ed by Retired Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster on the rewards of military service, the opening of the National Museum of the United States Army in Fort Belvoir, VA, the unveiling of the new National Native American Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, a new program from the VA called "Reach Vet" that uses big data and artificial intelligence to identify veterans who may be at higher risk of suicide, and the completion of 100.000 sequenced genomes for the Million Veteran Program. Also includes statistics from the VA on the suicide rates among veterans broken down by age for the years 2005-2017.
