Although short-term acute care hospitals (STACHs) are the nation’s frontline in fighting severe COVID-19 infections, the post-acute care (PAC) sector—home health agencies (HHAs), skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs), and long term care hospitals (LTCHs)—offered a source for clinical staff, capacity, and other resources to support STACHs. We investigate the role played by PAC during the first wave of the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE).
