Description
Financial papers and other reports on St. Joseph's Church and plantation, including property inventories listing enslaved individuals and reports sent to Peter Kenney as the Jesuits considered the sale of enslaved individuals:
Subscription list (1848) for the Enlargement and Repair of St. Joseph's Church [Talbot County, MD]; Letter (Dec. 17, 1857) from George King, S.J.; An inventory of the property and stock on St. Joseph's Farm agreed upon and settled between and by Rev. John Ambrose Sauge and Mr. William Corkrill (1803) [includes enslaved individuals]; St. Joseph's General Charge and Discharge [annual accounts for 1830-31)]. Included among the accounts is a section concerning the residence and mission of St. Joseph's (1831). This section concerns a description and personal commentary upon the lives and mores of their enslaved individuals; Power of attorney (1880) from the Corporation of Roman Catholic Clergymen to C.C. Lancaster, S.J.; Letter (c. 1839) to Peter Kenny, S.J., discusses morays and religious habits of enslaved servants; Letter (Dec. 2, 1867) from Edward Henchy, S.J., to C.C. Lancaster, S.J.; List of pastors (1876) of St. Joseph's; Two letters (1858) from Howes Goldsborough, S.J.; Postcard (1914) from E.I. Devitt, S.J., to Joseph Zwinge, S.J.
