    Description
In the Fall of 2020, I collaborated with Mun Chun (MC) Chan, Assistant Teaching Professor in the Biology Department to run a workshop in the Apprenticeship in Teaching (AT) Program. MC had run an optional workshop within the program for several years, designed to support Graduate TAs who were teaching STEM classes on how to facilitate effective lab and recitation sections and teach material that was not their own. When I reached out to MC about a project for my Methods in Design class, we discovered our overlapping interest in inclusivity in the STEM teaching and why creating inclusive spaces for all learners is vital. This shared passion became an opportunity for the two of us to rework this workshop to focus on training TAs to facilitate inclusive labs and recitations; emphasizing how these learnings would impact not only their time at GU, but their larger scientific careers. This session will break down our design process: How we identified the learning objectives for our workshop, our backwards design process, and how we selected the activities we would run given the online delivery format and our previous experience in AT workshops. The presentation will include clips of the workshop recording and will discuss its overall outcome. Attendees will walk away understanding the value of inclusive pedagogy and how they can apply this learning in their own classrooms, STEM or otherwise.
