    Description
Letterbooks: Copy book of letters sent. 1833-1836, 1839-1843: letters concern the sale of land, standards set for hired help, relations with tenants, interest payments; and attempts to secure payments from Jesse Batey and Henry Johnson, who purchased enslaved people from the Province in 1838. Includes a transcript of a letter written by John McElroy on Eliza who was withheld from the sale and others who ran away before it was completed. A letter dated October 16, 1834 written to John McElroy addressed the expectations that should be placed on a black washerwoman.
