Description
Documentary video exploring the life of Sister Mary Flavia Egan (c. 1879-1935) who graduated from Georgetown University in 1925. Sister Mary Flavia may have been the first Georgetown graduate to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. The video makes use of archival records to recount Sister Mary Flavia's graduation from Georgetown and to trace her movements both before and after her time at Georgtown: from Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. to St. Joseph's Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and later St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, CT, where she remained until her death in 1935. The video also examines several other women religious who received Bachelor's degrees and one Sister who received a PhD at Georgetown between 1925 and 1926. They were Sister Mildred Florenz, Sister Rosella Delaney, Sister Rosaline Doyle, and Sister Josetta Frank from the Class of 1925 and Sister Mary Joanilla Knott and Sister Mary Euphrasia Markham from the Class of 1926.
