dc.description | Holograph letter from Margrieta Beer, 65 College Court, Hammersmith W.6 (London, England), to (Hagan), in thanks for all the news. Expressing sentimental feelings for their leaving the College; asking whether it will not be very inconvenient having a church so far from their base. Then explaining that her coming to Rome would hinge on an alleged recent papal decree according to which Catholics are not to cooperate with non-Catholics; her Catholic Women's Suffrage Society was to travel to a congress there. Fr. Mullen, who recently visited the Irish College, was a travel companion of hers in Palestine, sharing a feeling of horror at some of the evils surrounding the holy places. She spent most time in Egypt; her study of the political situation will be used by Ramsay Macdonald in Parliament. Grateful for Hagan's opinions on Ireland; even she is sick of 'the people who constantly crow "I told you so!"'. Eva Gore-Booth tells blood-curdling stories of priests refusing absolution: 'the clergy in Ireland were all that was good before the Treaty ' now they are all that is evil!' Asking whether the young Mayor of Lime- rick O'Mara is still alive; he stayed with her when on the run. | |
