Description
Holograph letter from Bishop E. Mulhern, Ardmaine, Newry (County Down), to Hagan. At length discussing financial matters concerning Kearns burse and Mr. Parland. Enclosing document (not extant); asking for faculties in the matter and explaining awkward situation in the diocese where he often has to appoint a third priest where there is a living only for two. Then remarking on the difficulties arising in market towns like Newry from the rules regulating customs and the crossing of the border. The visit from (Luzio) ended 'not an hour too soon'- it was 'an unfortunate move on the part of the Vat.[ican]'.
