Description
Holograph letter from 'Seán Ghall', Ashville, Philipsburgh Avenue, Fairview, Dublin, to 'a chara' (Hagan), in gratitude for the transcripts; hoping he will be appointed to Dublin long-term in order to earnestly work on manuscripts. Reckoning that Hagan will one day come round to his own point of view, as he used to hold the one Hagan represents now; [enclosing] a review that will be of interest. Explaining his positivist approach to history as strictly based on facts. Praising his work on the national ideal; agreeing that the presently used history books are fit only for burning. Reiterating the need for extensive work on the Irish national poems, like the Four Masters' eulogy on Seán Uí Néill. Inviting criticism on his forthcoming article. Commenting on the present divide of the Irish; grateful that 'the greater number in the divided camp are noble men and women'. Arguing he stands for the Treaty since it is 'the only possible road to the land of my Dream', while remaining 'a rebel to everything English that would hobble our feet on the way to complete self- realization'. Therefore, he was not 'shocked' as Hagan opined since their views are alike.
