Description
Holograph letter from Cait (Ó Ceallaigh), 91 St. Stephen's Green (Dublin), to Hagan. Commenting at length about the elections. They are beginning to work to- wards them though unsure whether to put up candidates. Polls are confusing; bringing hopeful results for both main antagonists. Judging there is more coverage on the (Free State side), and 'more enthusiasm in ours'. Class interests are strong and it is hard to get a '"Republican"' farmer find a worse enemy than Jim Larkin, though her side hopes that Labour candidates will be put up to oppose the presently sitting ones. Wexford seems to have a three-fifth majority and the Midlands are said to be the strongest nationally, but it is wiser to assume nothing. So far there has not been a release of prisoners although they are told that the release of five thousand will occur before the election: 10,000 would remain of 'the worst enemies of the Irish democracy. You know the type'. Her plans for working; 'as Seán is [going up] I can't well leave all his work to others'. Speculating that Hagan will be there for the elections, though the date is not yet clear.
