Description
Holograph letter from P.[Murphy], House of Missions, Enniscorthy (County Wexford), to (Hagan). Encouraging words about the election; despite the lack of funds for electioneering, it is obvious that Ireland is not conquered yet and the (Free State) is naturally not satisfied. It is generally agreed that DeV.(alera) must be released since 'he is the only man that can bring peace'. Current rumours. Cosgrave will find much to do on returning from the continent, with his party losing support to the republicans. 'The church has backed the wrong horse and it is time now to allow freedom in political matters...' The people are loyal as ever despite the one-sided political sermons they hear every Sunday.
