Description
Holograph letter from Donal Hales, Via San Nazaro 1- 10, Albaro, Genoa, to Hagan. Encouraged by the election results; while there will be a year of hard fighting the republic is certain to win. Commenting that Desmond Fitzgerald seems to have paved the way for the Irish church's subordination to the British Embassy; he has sent pieces to the Italian press about this scandal. He also informed Popolo d'Italia, Mussolini's brother, of items in the Free State press condemning Mussolini's strong policy 'as it had been attacking other countries which were trying to rid themselves of English influence'. Hales will be glad to visit Bobbio alongside Fr. O'Flanagan and Mr. J.J. O'Kelly, now in Paris. The Italian press picked up on the fact that there were Irishmen in Bobbio recently who did not see eye to eye with Mr. Cosgrave.
