dc.description | Typescript letter signed Art Ó Muireadaig (A.J. Murray), Collège de Sainte Térèse, Ste. Térèse, Canada, to (Hagan). Prior to ordination he is following his bishop's orders, improving his French. Inviting comments on the Irish situation; his only consolation was the return of some old friends in the 'recent "free" elections'. Then commenting on Monsignor [Luzio]'s sojourn in Ireland; he rightly felt his treatment very keenly: 'imagine the "Draper's Curate" Bill Cosgrave requiring Credentials from The Holy Father's Representative'. In the proposed Irish legation to the Vatican, a lot depends on the man chosen – asking Hagan's opinion. Deploring that their fight in the field is over for a generation; hoping that education of the people will one time lead to a victory by constitutional means. Humorous speculations on the presence of a loyal Irish ambassador. Asking about hints in the press, including Eire, about a papal pronouncement along the lines of Luzio's report. Regretting the involvement of the Irish clergy, especially the Bishop of Killaloe, in the election, because the loss of power implied in the 17,000 votes for 'the Chief'. Finally inquiring about the relics ordered. | |
