| dc.description | Typescript copy letter from Seán Ó Corráin, Pontifical Urban College of Propaganda Fide, Via Propaganda 1, Rome, to the Editor of the Catholic Bulletin (Gill's, Dublin). Taking issue with statements in Stannous' article, published in June in relation to His Britannic Majesty's visit to Rome, portraying Propaganda Fide as inimical to Ireland. Propaganda is in no way a British institution; giving residence to 22 nationalities. A rescript mentioned by Stannous was never enforced. The Freeman's Journal was banned at Propaganda in the 1880s like all other newspapers. A distinction ought to have been made between Propaganda and the Central Council of the Propagation of the Faith in Lyons; the latter subsumed Ireland under 'British Isles' for administrative reasons. The omission of St. Patrick in a recent calendar was over-interpreted; also it included St. Columbanus. Other points. Querying the intentions behind Stannous' representations of Propaganda; they can be only detrimental to both the respect for the Holy See at home, and to the Irish cause as viewed by Roman authorities.
