Description
Holograph letter from Proinsias Ní Bhradaigh (Frances Brady), Dublin, to 'a chara dhil' (Hagan), relieved to have received his letter. She has missed that number of Eire of 25 August. Commenting that many so-called republicans are '26 county Republicans', not wanting to be bothered with the north; but defending the President and all people that count in the government. Wondering whether he is in Florence. Australia is doing well despite the deportations. Celebrating the election results which must have encouraged all exiles; some counties did very well, and as Hagan said, at a time when England had the stranglehold on the country. Contemptuous of arrest of (DeValera); hoping he is not to be executed as rumoured. Arthur told them Hagan was going on holiday. Then remarking that most of the younger priests could be said to be on their side; so are 40% even in Down and Connor. Fr. Gogarty, S.S. Argenta, resigned over the oath. 'Bernie' has been ill lately; she is writing herself. The case of [S.T.]'s mother dying was sad, but he unlike others was lucky to get out on parole. Teachers in the six counties are in a terrible predicament as to the oath- asking his opinion; refusal of giving the Free State oath at least does not involve penalties. With regards from her parents.
