Description
Holograph letter from Bishop T. O'Doherty, St. Brendan’s, Loughrea (County Galway), to (Hagan). The Bulls have arrived. Enclosing cheque for Mr. Keane's pension. Dr. Fair may remain in Rome until the work is finished unless recalled. O'Doherty is in the process of transferring to Galway. In Ireland there is 'a great hullabulloo' over the release of the prisoners- asking why the republicans do not hand in their arms. Some of the demoralised section are using these arms; they declared openly during elections that the war will be renewed. Their petition to the bishops for help comes after they tried to blacken their names in Ireland and all over the world. Were the bishops to pronounce he expects the consensus to be 'let the hunger-strikers strike, until they accept the very reasonable terms offered by the Government'. He is 'sick of the whole wretched business'.
