Description
Holograph letter from P.J. Roughneen, Kiltimagh (County Mayo), to Hagan, enclosing handwritten instructions for the Fr.[O'Hara] bust, and enclosing photographs (latter not extant). Making arrangements for the payment. Disappointed with 'Power's' behaviour towards the Irish College. Passing on the rumour that 'our friend (Most Reverend) O'Gorman' is so far unpopular with the republicans that he received threatening letters and that his stay in the Saorstát was unhappy. As concerns the daily press there are definite blunders in that the proposal of a boycott of the daily press is obviously entirely ignored. Observing that all politicians, on both sides, seem to do quite well out of their patriotism. Rome must be 'a rotten hole' for Irishmen; very regrettably there is no 'big man political or ecclesiastical at home, willing to right matters'. There is some skepticism as to the National Loan, to be floated on Saturday.
