dc.description | Holograph letter from Cáit bean Seán T. (Ó Ceallaigh), 91 St. Stephen's Green (Dublin), to Hagan, commenting on the hunger strike and situation of the prisoners in general. Despite the loss of two men and did not achieve what they hoped for, all feel relieved that the ordeal of the hunger strike is over. Explaining that the men meant to 'end it one way or another'. Deploring the fact that some men capitulated, equating capitulation by imprisonment in the first place with capitulation by signing allegiance to the state. Hoping it will not lead to permanent discontent in their ranks. Seán's camp in Gormanstown was 'called off'; Seán himself had been in the prison hospital by then, suffering from his usual rheumatic fever. Attempts to have prisoners unconditionally released to end the strike came to nothing but might still yield something. She is chairman of the Released Prisoners' Committee and very busy with it; so is Phyllis. Commenting on the 'continental winter' – in Gormanstown they had no fires at all. | |
