Description
Holograph letter from M. Sheehan, Juverna, Homebush, Sydney, to (Curran). Sympathising at length with him over his operation; he has had to undergo surgery many times himself. It is better to keep discretion on this since Australia is like Rome and news travel with ease as far as Wellington. In gratitude for Curran's letter on the Luzio mission: expressing sympathy for Luzio, a friend to many of them, and probably not easily pardoned by Rome for his failure. A letter from him showed Sheehan he was 'cut to the heart'. As for politics, commenting that any assumption that Japan's expansionary will or ability is reduced by recent disasters is wrong – territories like North Queensland must be very enticing for its wealth and absence of earthquakes. 'When their chance comes, they will drop on to us like a spider from the ceiling'. Then commenting on the expense and effort needed for the extension of their University College and the building of a women's college. Dr. Mannix in Melbourne, by comparison, would find it easy to meet the expense both for his influence and for more wealthy givers. Remarks for Hagan's attention about 'Germia'; Don Domenico need not send a crozier of the telescopic kind.
