Description
Holograph letter from Bishop A. Brownrigg of Ossory, Kilkenny, to Hagan, enclosing cheques and asking for advice on how to pay the various congregational fees. Then asking about the possibility of an 'epistola laudio' from the Holy Father: 'personally I hope I care not a thrawneen for the praises of men, but I see that such a letter would come as a grateful acknowledgement and an inspiriting influence for good to the worthy priests and people of Ossory'. Asking also whether a lady deserving recognition for acts of charity could be honoured with the medal 'pro ecclesia et pontifice'. Adding that Mrs. Loftus, wife of Major Loftus, will visit Rome soon; he believes she is Jewish. Enclosing a 'li- bellus supplex' for presentation (not extant).
