dc.description | Handwritten letter from 'Ernie' [O'Malley], Isolation Hospital, No.3 Ward, Curragh (County Kildare), to ['Frank'] [...]in gratitude for his long letter, the postcards and other reading matter he was told about but has not asked for yet. Stating he would not like the Riviera; he loves the French cathedrals. During the strike he read Mark Twain's Joan of Arc where the author views the church without his usual 'fun'; recommending Anatole France's Life; he is presently interested in St. Francis. Hoping '[Kay]' is better; it must be hard for her to deliver lectures; she did much for him during the strike, and her companion 'Joan' can use her pen very well unlike some journalists. He has had postcards from 'Ben'; some comments on Palestine. The recipient should regard himself lucky to have to spend time in Rome; discussing his preferences in art; praising a new German process for colour reproductions; mentioning Hawthorne's Marble Fawn. Jail is bearable with plenty of reading. Regards to friends. | |
