Description
Holograph letter from J. McShane, Coláiste Chuilmcille Derry, to Hagan. Offering information about the conflict between their bishop and the Christian Brothers; the latter question his competence in educational matters – joking about a ‘grand finale in the Campus Martius or the Coliseum’. With the backing of their past pupils union, the Brothers have opened an intermediate school bar permission from the bishop. The ‘Sandy Row Parliament’ would back them and no bishop could fight both the Pope and Sir James Craig for his rights. Hoping the Derry student gives satisfaction; the bishop is keen to be well represented in Rome. Stating he offers merely unofficial information on the Christian Brothers; the times rather call for a united front. (Reverse bears brief list by Hagan of points in Italian concerning the problem.)
