Description
Typescript letter signed [C.] [C.F. Ronayne], Dublin, to 'Carissimo' (Hagan), asking whether his three letters to 'Hickey' [Hagan himself] arrived; he sent him a document concerning the Blues [Little Company of Mary]. Both bishops are keenly interested in the matter. Asking whether he will be in Rome to receive an important document from the sisters; asking for advice on communicating the matter to the Roman sisters. Then giving brief news on 'Mrs. Brewer' [Morrissey] and 'Sister Katherine' [P.T. Keohane]. Commenting that the affairs in the 'Convent' [Irish republican party] leave him nonplussed: 'the superiors seem to me to be living in dreams, and the rank and file...have had all the heart knocked out of them.' He could understand the old programme 'but this new-fangled stunt seems to me to be without meaning or direction or value of any kind.' [Keohane] reckons those in charge will not be ready for government for at least 12 months more. At least the new programme attracts many new followers. (Adopting ostensible tone) He knows little of politics. The Tailtean, or 'Tell Tale' Games went brilliantly. Adding he expects his chief around 1 or 12 (September).
