Description
Holograph letter from Bishop J. Dignan, St. Brendan’s Coorheen, Loughrea (County Galway), to Hagan. In gratitude for past office, and enclosing Peter's Pence as well as fees. Then commenting- 'your letter made me smile!'- on his consecration pronouncement, widely publicised and also criticised. Hagan is more careful of his reputation than he is himself; avowing he meant everything he said in defence of the other side, though he is not a politician, merely an Irishman. He did not heed the squeamish or interested persons commenting, least the anonymous ones.
