Holograph letter from Denis P. O'Flynn, St. Mary’s, 1925 St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth (County Kildare), to Brendan [Harley, Irish College Rome], in reply. Commenting on their respective studies, Dublin ecclesiastical news, and mutual acquaintances. Discussing the death of '"Mister"', and the vacant chair at (University College Dublin). In politics, observing the general apathy of the people; the republicans are planning Árus na Féile and the purchase of the Freeman's Journal which the bishops are also interested in. Praising as the only ray of light the meeting of Conradh na Gaeilge, attended by all old stalwarts including Douglas Hyde, Eoin MacNéill and DeValera. Remarking then that 'the Abbey Theatre crowd' has become obstreperous since the treaty; promulgating their religious heresies in their organ To-Morrow and attacking the Irish movement in the Oireachtas (mentioning Yeats, Lennox Robinson, and G.W. Russell). It might be no surprise were the bishops to condemn 'all that set'. For all that he believes the Gaelic League is 'an important factor in our cultural (and) religious salvation'.
