Description
Holograph letter from Bishop E. Mulhern, Ardmaine, Newry (County Down), to (Hagan). Explaining that in the case of the English lady willing to donate £ 200 for the cathedral he has had a reply from Canon Doyle, but that he will have to await a reply; she knows he hesitates under the circumstances. Then asking for a papal prize for the big fundraising efforts in Warrenpoint for parochial purposes; explaining that a painting will not appeal much; Fr. [Pat McConville] can bring it back. Stating his own need for a holiday. The archbishop of Dublin ought to bring back a helper since it is obvious he has much overwork. Then commenting that the (Christian) Brothers in the northeast ought to go under the Board (of Education) also; the Hammersmith scheme solves their own trouble since boys trained in a certain period must be catechumens for a while before being admitted to their schools. Finally inviting him to the ceremony [consecration of their cathedral] on 26 July.
