Description
Holograph letter from Bishop J. Dignan, St. Brendan’s Coorheen, Loughrea (County Galway), to Hagan. Expressing despair over the matter discussed in today's Independent; a man would regret being born an Irishman; doubting they deserve any windfalls from Providence. Then stating Dr.Fair is free to go to Rome for the summer. Leaving it to Hagan's suggestion how long Frs. Thomas Naughton and William O'Mahony are to stay in America, collecting for the parish of Gurteen – he does not know of their Free State leanings but will make enquiries. He has decided to reinstate Fr. Patrick O'Loughlin who has been exemplary over the last year. (Now attached handwritten draft by (Hagan) petitioning in this case.) Enclosing documents (only one extant): typescript letter from [...], St. Peter’s, Phibsboro, Dublin, to Bishop [Dignan of Clonfert], listing and answering in turn the bishop's questions regarding the establishment of the Sacred Heart Confraternity, also listing those parishes where they are already established canonically. – Dignan asking him to help as to procedure. [25 November - 11 December 1925]
