dc.descriptionTypescript letter signed Seán T.(Ó Ceallaigh), Poblacht na hÉireann/ Irish Republican Headquarters, 3 East Street 42nd Street, New York (United States of America), to Hagan, worried for his failure to write for a while. Observing that Cardinal O'Donnell's appointment met with general approval and that (Cardinal) Bourne was anxious to pay respects – both now being 'Empire Cardinals'. The former's recent pronouncements signal his disapproval of the 'latest partition treaty'. Cait is better. Then stating his disappointment with their side for not having fought more successfully against acceptance of that treaty. According to the Irish News, DeValera publicly stated his personal determination to entering the Free State assembly were the 'declaration' removed. This will antagonise those who were against a vigorous fight over the partition business. While DeValera's statement would have made a difference on the treaty, he wanted to try his views first at the ardfheis; he believes he has the majority with him. 'He will probably have to face a strenuous few minutes in the near future, but it will be all the better for the cause in the end.' Frank Aiken arrives next week on a propaganda tour, and to raise funds. Hoping that one of those coming from Ireland will relieve himself in July. Enclosing cutting from the New York Times (not extant) on Monsignor Mooney's appointment as papal delegate to India; he must have satisfied the English as to his friendly intent.
