Description
Holograph letter from James Bastible, 2 Buxton's Terrace, Sunday's Well, Cork, to (Hagan). Explaining his delay in applying for the chair in Maynooth; his bishop encourages him to do so. Asking for a letter of reference; enclosing a list of his prizes (not extant). Asking for news about Curran. Stating that most past pupils are enthusiastic about the union. He held a prison chaplaincy in Glasgow for a month, before an extensive European journey; especially Budapest was very interesting; unlike the Viennese people they are full of determination 'to make Hungary something in World politics'.
