Description
Typescript memorandum by [...] with handwritten emendations (in Hagan's hand) and an Italian translation. Defending the practice in various parishes in Ireland of giving faculties to friars, to keep the number of priests to a healthy minimum and avoid charges of having a 'priest-ridden country'. Outlining the historical background in Ireland, the activities of religious communities and lack of government funding; also pointing to the anti-clerical campaign which Michael O'Riordan helped to counter successfully. Sensitivities ought not be touched in that unnecessary priests and the abuse of faculties ought to be avoided. (was 1920)
