Ethics in Biomedical Research (2005)
Producer: Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)
This four-part presentation is "designed to help introduce and teach bioethics" through the lens of biomedical research. Some questions posed are "What constitutes ethical behavior in biomedical research? How does a researcher navigate the many complex issues modern science presents?" Well-known scientists and ethicists offer their views on these questions. Topics covered include an overview of bioethics (28 minutes), animal subjects (19 minutes), genetic alteration (17 minutes), and scientific integrity (15 minutes). Additional resources are available online in a companion web site that includes PDFs of historical documents, case studies, and links to other resources. See http://www.hhmi.org/research/bioethics/.
