Noose Manufacturing Process
Illustrated Civil War envelopes with patriotic symbols, slogans and cartoons, mostly Northern, including a few Southern ones.
A strand of hemp appears to the right side of the image. The word, Agriculture" appears below the strand of hemp. One of the hemp stalks extends to what appears to be a spinning wheel operated by a man in formal attire. The words, "Hemp for Traitors, North or South", appear on the rim of the spinning wheel. The word, "Manufactures" appears below the spinning wheel. A strand of rope goes from the spinning wheel to a gallows in order to form a noose. The words, "Fine Arts", appears below the gallows. The image implies that all traitors will be punished, no matter where they appear."
