In defense of the nation (part 1) : American military strategy
Krogh, Peter F. (Peter Frederic)
Person InterviewedSchlesinger, James R.
Host Peter Krogh discusses U.S. military strategy with John Lehman and James Schlesinger.
At a time when the defense spending by the Reagan administration represented the largest peacetime build-up in history, Peter Krogh sits down with Secretary to the Navy John Lehman and former Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Energy James Schlesinger to discuss the resources, goals, and strategy for the American military. The first of a two part series, this episode focuses on answers to the three most important questions in defense: how, when, and where does the United States use military power to protect American interests. With the Soviet Union challenging the free-world experts agree that research and development, logistics, technology and national will must all be engaged to secure a strong defense. But the realities of the Cold War in 1983 as well as modern conflicts today lead to the same concern: even if we are willing to fight, are we willing to give our forces what they need to be successful?
