In the final episode of World Beat's first season, three very different and yet very significant topics in world affairs are reviewed. Each of the three segments look back at moderator Peter Krogh’s trips to regions of the world to probe beyond the headlines into issues of long-range significance. Tumultuous events in the year brought him to Gaza and the West Bank to examine the Arab-Israeli conflict, Palestinian uprising, and a quest for peace in the region. He also traveled to Mexico and U.S. cities in an effort to understand how differing perception of the two cultures will shape the increasingly intimate relationship they share. Finally, with significant concern about the newly discovered hole in the ozone layer over the earth’s polar regions, Peter Krogh examines the international community’s effort to come together and stave off disaster before it is too late. While these issues were some of the most significant in 1988, the implications of actions taken in that time have had long lasting impressions.en
