"Can't knock the hustle" : the modernization of the gangster image in "The Wire"
Rossow, Scott Andrew.
Thesis (M.A.)--Georgetown University, 2009.; Includes bibliographical references.; Text (Electronic thesis) in PDF format. I start with a general overview of the gangster image in the classic gangster film of the early 1900s and the hood film of the early 1990s, noting the trends in the gangster representations while also showing their modernization. This leads up to my discussion of "The Wire," where I look at how the show speaks to the past gangster representations and analyze its own contribution, particularly how it uses the camera to engage the viewer.
