New South Building at Georgetown University
Young, Jr., Bob
Georgetown College (1789-1815)
Following the launching of Sputnik by the USSR in 1957 and the realization that U.S. was falling behind in science and technology education, the U.S. Government made funds available to institutions of higher education to beef up programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. New South, which opened in the Fall of 1959 as a student dormitory, was built using these funds.
