In April 1956, a drill sponsored by MEND (Medical Education for National Defense) was held at the University Hospital to give disaster training to both medical students and Hospital staff. The national coordinator for MEND termed the hospital’s handling of the disaster good, 'particularly the sorting of the serious and the minor injury cases.”
