Moderated by Allen Ludden, the College Bowl was sponsored by General Electric and was aired nationally on CBS on Sundays. The competition placed an emphasis on the participants' ability to quickly recall specific facts. GE used the College Bowl as a way to provide scholarship grants to participating colleges and universities. Here, Georgetown University team members Tom Anderson, Mike Hughes, Dennis Duffy, and Tim Murphy compete against Princeton in the 1959 winter Series. The two teams battled to a tie in their first match but the Georgetown team would go on to win the second match by a score of 215 to 70.
