Georgetown College (1789-1815)
Singer, actress, and writer Pearl Bailey was awarded an honorary degree by the University in 1977, 'in inspired recognition of her profound humanity, her proliferate record of public involvement, and her continuing constructive role in attempting to close gaps among peoples and nations.' She enrolled at Georgetown the following year and, in 1985, earned a B.A. in Theology, the oldest graduate in her class at age 67. Her course of studies stretched to seven years because of career-related leaves of absence.
