(Scope Note 8, AIDS: Law, Ethics and Public Policy, was published in April 1988. This updated bibliography was prepared at the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature (NRC), and first appeared in RSR: Reference Services Review 19(2): 59-75, Summer 1991.) The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) of the US. Department of Health and Human Services defines the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) as a specific group of diseases or conditions which are indicative of severe immunosuppression related to infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
