About the Collection
Renée C. Fox, a sociologist, and Judith P. Swazey, a historian, became a "team of two" in this ethnological study of the new field of bioethics, that began with the foundation of the Hastings Center in 1969, and two years later, the Kennedy Institute of Ethics. Their book, "Observing Bioethics", was based on a series of interviews Fox and Swazey did with a number of well-known bioethicists.
By arrangement with LeRoy Walters, then Director of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics, transcripts of the interviews were archived at the Bioethics Research Library. We are grateful to the participants, who authorized the BRL to make the interviews accessible through this digital collection to those interested in the history of bioethics.
