ABSTRACT
This study uses data from the Current Population Survey, a joint project of the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census, to estimate the effect of female candidates on voter turnout in statewide elections. It finds a small, positive correlation between the presence of a female candidate on the ballot and voter turnout, but this is statistically insignificant in most specifications.
