Villa Le Balze creates living-and-learning communities in Italy that are distinctly Georgetown.

Since 1981 Georgetown University has been running study abroad programs at Villa Le Balze, a stunning property perched above Florence in the town of Fiesole. Programs are open to applicants from any US institution of higher education. Villa Le Balze offers two semester programs from September through December and from January through April. There is also a rich offering of short-term programming from May through July. Program sizes range from 20 to 30 participants. The Villa also hosts conferences on various topics organized by Georgetown University faculty. For program information visit the website listed above.

Course offerings for the semester programs include: Renaissance and Medieval Art History, Renaissance and Medieval History, Italian Cinema, European and Italian Government, Literature, Beginning to Advanced Italian Language. Semester students also take an acculturation course centered on the City of Florence and are provided a small budget to develop and present a personal project at the conclusion of the semester. Course offerings for short-term programs vary greatly and change from year to year.
