Discipline Board Meeting, April 17, 1969, Part 1
Recording captures events outside the student activites room on the first floor of Old North where the Discipline Board had gathered to consider a charge brought against Emilio Gonzalez, a special student in the College of Arts and Sciences, by Dean of Students Charles Hartmann. The charge stemmed from disruptions during the March 13, 1969, visit of San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto to speak in Gaston Hall. Mr. Barry Portman, S.J., one of counsels for Gonzalez, announces to the waiting crowd around the 8 minute 30 second mark that the charges have been dismissed without prejudice. Much of the remainder of the recording covers a subsequent press conference given by Gonzalez and his counsel, Law Center professor Alan Scheflin. Reference is made to the parallel case of Christopher Murray, who was cleared of charges by the Board on May 15, 1969. Christmas music begins at the 26 minutes 21 second mark.
